Cambridge Scottish and Highland Games

Yesterday was the 35th Cambridge Scottish festival and Highland Games. We were part of the festivities as vendors and it was a success day for us .
The festival itself was fantastic, from great pipe bands to the heavy events, I was able to watch some of the solo competitions and it gave me the courage to want to compete . I t was a great day full of very positive people. Canadian Casual Kilts were very well received by the crowd at the Games this year I was really busy with folks chatting about our kilts and how they differ and what makes them such a good option . One of the best parts of the day came when a an older customer came by to say hello and he was wearing one of the kilts I have made him and he told a potential customer of how much he loved his kilt and how it has been through the ring and kept its shape etc, well that potential customer is now a customer and is excited about his kilt . The other great thing about Cambridge was how my wife and I were working as a team selling kilts and giving information it was the first time in a long time, our daughter who is now 4 was keeping herself busy but later on, wanted to see the pipers play funny at home she yells for me to stop piping but out at the festival she sat and watched the mass band and was dancing ,  and enjoying herself she, is she trying to tell me something ?
Also we had a large number of people really interested in the Black Isle tartan that we are weaving in the poly/viscose it will be ready by September, If your interested in purchasing a custom made kilt in the Black Isle contact me Mach@canadiancasualkilts.ca be one of the first to wear this new concept in tartan fashion .
Well folks heres some of the day its hard to get pics as I am busy running my booth enjoy for now.

I was glad i was able to add to their event.
Sunday was tartan day in my home town of Fergus all the pubs in town had bands playing and folks were wandering from pub to pub .
The Owner of the Goofie Newfie Rebecca, and myself put together a raffle and we raffled off one of my kilts to raise money for charity, for it being the first time we ever worked together on a project it went really, we raised money and people loved it the lucky gentlemen was extremely happy to have won , the kilt will be in the Canadian Maple tartan.

Easter Weekend

Hello all
Easter weekend is upon us and getting ready to have a huge dinner with my family.
I would like to extend a happy easter to all you out that have been ready my blog let me know if you are.
Today was a great day , the kind of day that makes me love being a kilt maker .
A customer asked me if I would be able to make him a kilt in the Irish Saffron I was able to having the fabric already in the the workshop in our 11oz polyviscose from the United Kingdom wonderful stuff. This customer is a return customer he had ordered a kilt in the Donegal Tartan before Robbie Burns and I was able to make it for him, he was very pleased with how well it was constructed it had sentimental value because his mother just recntly passed away and he promised her he would wear it , so he was able to keep his promise. Now just last week we were speaking and he mentioned the Saffron kilt and i said to him no problem let me know when you want it he needed it by friday April 2 . Kilt completed by the scheduled time here is my favorite part he picks up the kilt and is totally loving it he is beside himself with excitement and says to me that he can't believe how amazing my work is , I thank him humblely and he goes on is way home to enjoy his new kilt .
I love when I can do this for a person it's really great to see the persons face when they get their kilt and examine it and see them fall in love.
Hope you all out there have a wonderful easter and we see u in a couple days

The Weekend

Well I am back
I really didn't do much on the weekend. I missed a wicked kilt in Stratford Ontario, but it was important for me to stay home.
Anyways Sunday I went to Orangeville to their Maple Syrup festival I have never gone to anything like this so it sounded like a great idea , it was fun I went kilted of course in a beautiful 6yrd Graham of Meneith tartan made by Canadian Casual Kilts( built by for me )
and to keep me nice and toasty I wore my Hawick kilt hose (made in Scotland) , they are so nice and warm to wear . I learned alot about maple syrup and its history but the weather was not cooperating so we made our way home .
In the evening I was working on a couple of kilts for Gord Taylor of the Real McKenzies, he is an amazing bagpiper , actually Gord has written three book on his compositions of pipe music and I was lucky enough to get all three book signed by , the other is for Darcy Furness of the Glengarry Bhoys a great Canadian celtic group one of my closest friends is their piper Ewan Brown . This went on till about 12:30 am and I had to go to bed .
My day job is working as an education assistant in a Developmental Classroom so Monday came fast.
Presently waiting to eat then go to work on a few more kilts, an organize myself for the summer festival season
Here's a couple of pics

My First Blog

Well, hello
I am the head kilt maker for Canadian Casual Kilts in Fergus, Ontario. I have been making kilts for a number of years and thought it would be cool if I kept a blog of my goings on in the world of kilt making.
Presently I have been making kilts for the band the Mudmen, WWE wrestlers the Highlanders, Ewan Brown and Darcy Furness of the Glengarry Bhoys, Cory Walden of The Rogues, and recently Gord Taylor of the Real McKenzies. I have made kilts for a great many people and am very proud of the quality of the work that has been coming out of my work shop. I am a one man show and like it that way. It takes a bit longer, but I am the one in control, and my signature is on each and every kilt that I build.
Our kilts are a little different than what has traditionally been made. I make a traditional style kilt in both 5 yards and 8 yards but the difference is the fabric I use. I found an incredible fabric called poly-viscose, woven in the United Kingdom, done in 80 family tartans and generic tartans. We have been able to make a custom fit at an affordable price and we are the first ones to make a 12oz poly-viscose Canadian Maple Leaf tartan kilt, which has been the most popular tartan to date.
Among other things, I have been playing the pipes for almost 2 years now and feel that I have progressed well in this area. Last, but not least, I am married to the most wonderful woman who has been nothing but supportive in my endeavour in kilt making and I have a daughter who means everything to me. I can't believe I have such a loving family.
So for now...... that's all I have to say so take care for now and watch for post pics and vids of Canadian Casual Kilts goings on.
